Five Guys Burgers & Fries Alive In South Surrey

After finding out last night that Five Guys was open a few blocks from home, I whipped out this after noon for a late lunch and The Burger That Changed My Life. Seriously, these 5 guys makes a damn good burger. And bring your bank card, the prices aren't cheap. But you know what? The fresh, quality, ingredients more than make the extra bucks worth it.

I decided to go with the Little Bacon Cheeseburger, which means a single patty. If you order a regular bacon cheeseburger you get two patties. One is enough for me, so I paid, got over my disappointment that the hot dogs aren't available at this location yet, and made my way to the peanuts for a snack while I waited. When my number was called I was surprised to see every order comes in a paper bag, to go or not. I soon found out why- the fries were absolutely overflowing from the contained and filling up 1/4 of the bag. Genius. One quick taste and I was hooked. I don't know if it's the Idaho potatoes or the peanut oil they are cooked in,but these home cut fries are excellent. They put New York Fries to shame and I never even touched the salt shaker.

Next, I opened up my tinfoil wrapped burger to find heaven melting under a sesame bun. I 've had Fat Burger, Red Robin, Vera's Burger Shack and White Spot.....THIS was way better. Wow. I'm a bit of a purest when it comes to bacon cheeseburgers so it was just pickles, mustard and ketchup on mine and it was so juicy and tasty and filling. I barely finished half the burger and hardly put a dent in the fries, 2-3 people could easily share a regular size.

It was really quite enjoyable, a nice change from fast food and a welcome addition to South Surrey. I may have left a little lighter in the pocket and a bit heavier in the belly but I had a big grin on my face and plan to come back soon.

And for us veggies, do they have a veggie burger? ;)

they don't have a veggie burger for sheer lack of dedicated grill area, but they will make you a veggie sandwich with your fries. or they do grilled cheese but i imagine its on the meat grill as well.

Good to know, thanks! I always avoid the grill places since I watched a greek place throw my fava balls onto the grill where the meat goes. Um, kinda defeats the purpose there, guys.

I honestly hate the way they overflow with fries. I have to burn myself on hot peanut oil to get down to my actual burger.

Couldn't agree more. Great burger (especially with jalepenos added)!

I just checked the five guys website and this article is the first one on the main page with a picture of Surrey rotating with one other of the 600 locations.

Actually, they make your veggie sandwich AND the grilled cheese on the BUN grill, not the meat grill. So it's still pure and vegetarian. Plus the fryers get nothing but potatoes in them so even the oil is pure. :)

The big mistake that a lot of businesses make is trying to do too many things. 5 Guys, they do just one thing: Make Burgers and Fries. Okay; Burgers, fries and Hot dogs at some locations. But that's it. They don't try and stream line milk shakes at you, they're not going to insult you by tossing some salad and cherry tomatoes in a plastic bowl and calling it a salad, and they're not doing 20-flavors of pseudo-coffees. They make burgers. That's it. They make burgers and they make them well. Nuff Said.

I hate to be a party-pooper, but I visited 5 guys bergers & fries yesterday for the first time. I was very diapointed. I paid over $11 for their Cheeseburger, reg fries, lrg drink and the only thing that tasted good was the ice tea, same type at McDonald's. I understand they just do burgers and fries, but I expected one of the best tasting burgers & fries. I could have paid less at Fudruckers and gotten more fore my money, better tasting too. Oh well, at least I can say I tried it. All hype and no delivery. The food actually tasted bad.
My two cents.

john- i strongly suggest you try another location. i am a burger freak and i would not pay this kind of money for any old fast food, because it's not.

thnx for feedback though!
