The Return Of The Lazy Sunday

Chilliwack Lake, BC. A new paradise discovered.

Well it was inevitable. Summer is over and I am now fully employed in a 9-5. So far the job seems ok and the people I work with are really laid back and nice guys. I was really overwhelmed the first few days but I imagine that has more to do with the fact I haven't been in a traditional work environment in almost two years.

It sure doesn't take long to appreciate your weekends and vacations! Although I am sad that I won't be able to support myself on charm and sheer luck, I am happy to be free from the stress of financial doom. It was getting bad, and I knew I had to make this happen asap. I'm not looking at is as failure or selling out but more like a means to acquire new shoes, better equipment and a bit of spending money to go see more shows downtown. And now that I am working in Richmond I can easily do that, even on weekdays.

So if you have a new song or a show playing in Vancouver, hit me up and I'll do my best to come down and attempt to take some unique shots of you and your band. Or check out your indie movie..whatever. I've felt kinda out of the loop culturally for the last few months while I succumbed to summer by the beach and I feel it's time to get back in and check shit out. A lot of changes coming up for me, I can feel it like crisp air in the mornings as I walk out to my car at 7am. I have no idea what life has in store for me but I'm alive with anticipation and that's all I can ask for right now.

What's Up?

Good morning all. Sitting here at my desk looking out over the fountain and wishing it would magically turn into a pool. The weather in White Rock has been beautiful lately despite what the grumblers in Vancouver keep saying. Still searching for the elusive job that seems to be playing hide and seek with me lately. I had an interview last week for The Worst Job Ever. And they want me back for another interview on Monday but I'm not going. The pay was horrible and the supervisor told me to expect to cry at least once a month. Who says that?? Anyway, with the commute, lousy pay and added stress, I could make more in town at Starbucks with tips. So I'm back at it...but feeling a lot better about my journey than before. I'm unemployed, not unemployable.

Today will be a day of Farmer's Markets, walking to the beach and reading a great book with the sounds of the waves in the background. My best friend is coming out tomorrow to see the Black Keys for a belated birthday bash. So excited!

Whatever you end up doing, do it well and often! Seacrest out!

OK, This Just Kinda Pisses Me Off

Image via PostSecret.

I can't stand Harper - but I'd never fack with my boss's mail because he supported the Sweater Vest. Another small difference with Americans and Canadians. We don't take politics so damn serious. Sure we care and have passion, but that's about it. Once the election is over,we're done, back to work. I don't think the Republicans have stopped campaigning...ever.

Another Sunday come and soon to be gone. I'm nursing a bad head cold and hoping it will be gone by Tuesday so I can get back to business. There are pictures to take, interviews to be done and bands to be heard. Later all.

A Rainy Sunday In August

Yes we do! Well I did anyway...sorry,but sometimes you have to put someone on hold so they can calm down a second and rethink what they were just going to scream at you about. Plus they think you are talking to your supervisor and should get a better response when you come back on line. I can guarantee you when you get put on hold, 9 out of 10 times the supervisor was never called. The only time one gets called is if you straight up ask for one. Ahh...the old customer service life. Don't miss you!

But what I have missed almost this whole summer was Sunday Secrets! I know, the horror! I woke up this morning and it just popped in my head. Secrets! What the hell have I been doing to miss such a moving thing for the last 2 months? A lot. Covering festivals, interviewing bands, taking pictures on the new camera I finally broke down and bought. And the beach, can we talk about the beach? It's hard to get anything done in a timely manner with the scent of salt air and the sound of seagulls begging you to come for a walk along the shore as the sun sparkles off the water and wind whips at your hair.

But today we have rain and here I am posting from Postsecret again. It feels like a Sunday to do this again. I forgot how much I missed reading the cards. I hope you enjoy them too.

Rain Rain...you know how it goes...

Short and to the point...it's raining, I'm not happy about it and I'm going to veg the afternoon away watching bad reality tv and 80's movies. Take time for some Secrets and if you are on Twitter check out Shenae who's doing a similar thing with secrets people tweet her. It gets very real, very quick.

The Sundays Of Summer

Good morning all! Sorry I have been away from the blog for awhile, but life does that sometimes. I am still working on a blog post about China, but honestly, the last few weeks since I've been back my mind has gone a million miles a minute and I haven't been able to completely put into words exactly how much the trip meant to me and how much I completely miss it! Rest assured,it will be written sometime this week along with an interview with Bodhi Jones and some other surprises coming up. Plans are still on hold for a new design for the blog while i get my life in order, but it WILL HAPPEN.

As for today...hug a gay or lesbian near you, it's Pride week in a lot of places like California, which means kicking off tons of Pride events and protesting for NoH8. If you don't have a gay or lesbian near you,hug your kids or friends, they might be gay one day! Show empathy and compassion for those around the world that don't have the same choices as you do and the same opportunities afforded to you because of who you love. It's not right,it has to change and only WE can make it happen.

One love, y'all.

Laziness All Around Me

Good morning. It's early. 9:18am to be exact. I could not sleep in any longer and read for about an hour before getting up and deciding to post. It's quiet this early, I like it. Last night I went with some of my girlfriends to a great little sports bar on the beach and watched the Canucks lay the smack down to Chicago in game one of the second round Stanley Cup Playoffs. Sorry, excuse my Canadian-ness. I don't know what happened to me during the Olympics here, but..I became- gasp!- a hockey fan. I know, weird huh? Anyway..it was a good time watching the game, enjoying greasy food with my girls while watching the sun set over the ocean across the street. Bliss.

Today is going to be a lot of nothing. I plan to make a cup of strong tea and some peanut butter toast with fresh strawberries for breakie and curl up with my favorite classic 80's coming of age tale, Stand By Me. Love. This. Movie. I was ecstatic to find it for $5 at Target last week and it's the director's cut-special anniversary edition. 5 bones! Steal! After that I plan a nice long walk on the shoreline if it's not raining (currently overcast) and maybe grab a chai latte before picking up a few groceries and heading out for dinner with Mom and Dad. I kinda live for days like this. Days full of nothing and so much at the same time. Days that replenish your energy, fill up your tank with fresh air and give you rosy cheeks to smile about. Days where you can do anything or nothing at all and feel good about it. Sundays...

Sundays of Promise and Joy...

I know, right? Where the fuck did that title come from? Search me, I just write what pops into thy head. The sun is shining bright in WR, the day is still young, spring has sprung and I'm heading to the beach for a long walk on the dunes, maybe chill and read my book and then off to the Valley for dinner with my parents. The last week has been nuts and I just need to recharge the batteries a bit before taking flight on my next adventure. Speaking of that, have you heard I'm going to China in 5 weeks? Beijing, baby! My best girlfriend that I've known since I was 11 is coming with me and I am getting superexcited. Food, sights, Kodak moments, serenity among the temples and general havoc. And all in the year of the Tiger, my year! Sign me up! Now I just have to learn to finally use chopsticks, or bring a fork with me. Fun!

Life in general has been fantastic lately and I really hope this is the turn I've been waiting for. I've done a lot of 'Me' work lately and I feel like it's starting to pay off. Sometimes you just gotta let go and let life happen to you. Let abundance come to you,put it out there let it listen to you and give you what you need, not what you want. That's a hard lesson to learn sometimes, especially if you like order and routine and not losing control. Thankfully, that's not a problem for me, I lose control several times a week..haha.

Whatever you do with your day..or your life, make time for fun and joy and promise.

Lazy Sundays Are Back

You believe wrong. Well here we are in March..I've turned another year older, covered the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and become what I've always wanted to be...happy. Now if I could only figure out what I want to be when I grow up, life would be perfect! I can't complain, life is damn near perfect already. I live in a great place near the beach, I'm debt free, stress free and have a wealth of family and friends. If I could just lasso me a money tree and a man or a man who grows money trees...then life would be blissfully content. I'll settle for damn near perfect for now though.

Enjoy your Sunday. Find joy in the small things and feel grateful for what you have cough-healthcare-cough. Yes, you can.
